Professional Dental Cleanings in Winter Park, FL
A clean mouth is the foundation of long-term oral health — and at Smile Center of Orlando, every cleaning starts with a gentle, unhurried hygienist who genuinely listens. Most insurance accepted. Early morning hours available. Same-day appointments often possible for new patients.
Why cleanings are the most important visit you’ll have.
Even a perfect home care routine — brushing twice a day, flossing every night — can’t reach the hardened tartar that builds up between teeth and below the gumline. Only a professional cleaning can.
Skip your cleanings and the trade-off compounds: cavities, gum disease, bad breath, eventually tooth loss. Keep them on schedule and you avoid almost every expensive dental problem before it starts. Prevention isn’t glamorous — but it’s the single highest-ROI thing you can do for your teeth.
What’s included in every cleaning at Smile Center.
You’re not just rushed through. A typical hygiene appointment with us includes:
- ✓ Digital X-rays (when needed) — minimal radiation, instant images
- ✓ Plaque and tartar removal (scaling) — gentle hand instruments + ultrasonic
- ✓ Polishing to remove surface stains and smooth enamel
- ✓ Floss check and personalized home-care guidance
- ✓ Oral cancer screening (visual + tactile)
- ✓ Exam with Dr. Rezkalla or Dr. Altomare
Two kinds of cleaning — and the difference matters.
Not every patient needs the same kind of cleaning. We assess your gum health at each visit and recommend the appropriate type — never upsell, never push a deep cleaning that isn’t needed.
Regular Prophylaxis
- For patients with healthy gums and minimal tartar buildup
- Cleans above the gumline only
- Covered 100% by most dental insurance, twice per year
- Fast, comfortable, no anesthesia
- Includes exam, X-rays as needed, oral cancer screening
Deep Cleaning (Scaling & Root Planing)
- For patients with gingivitis or early periodontal disease
- Cleans below the gumline and smooths root surfaces
- Local anesthesia available — most patients are comfortable
- Often covered by insurance as a periodontal benefit
- Followed by 3-month maintenance cleanings until gums heal
Not sure which you need? Book a new-patient exam and we’ll evaluate — no commitment to treatment.

Why patients choose us for their cleanings.
22+ years in Winter Park. 419+ Google reviews. 4.8 stars. The reasons patients keep coming back.
Genuinely gentle hygienists
Read the reviews — patients name our hygienists by name. They take time, they listen, they don’t rush. Especially helpful if cleanings have made you anxious in the past.
Early-morning hours
Open at 7 AM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Get your cleaning done before work or before the school bell rings — without losing the workday.
Insurance verified pre-visit
We check your coverage before your appointment and quote anything not covered up front. No surprise bills.
Your exam is done by a dentist — every time.
Some practices have the hygienist do the exam and the dentist only swings by if something’s flagged. Not here. Dr. Rezkalla or Dr. Altomare personally examines every patient at every cleaning visit.
Dr. Mirna Rezkalla
Patient favorite, warm and meticulous. Especially gifted with anxious patients — if cleanings have stressed you out before, she’s the one to ask for.
Dr. John Altomare, DMD
Founded Smile Center over two decades ago. Many of our cleaning patients have seen Dr. Altomare every six months for 15+ years.
Dental Cleaning FAQs
The questions patients ask us most often.
How often should I get a dental cleaning?
For most adults with healthy gums: every six months. If you have a history of gum disease, smoke, or have other risk factors, every three to four months is often recommended. We’ll tell you what’s right for you, never sell you on a more aggressive schedule than you need.
Does my insurance cover cleanings?
Most dental plans cover two preventive cleanings per year at 100% — meaning $0 out of pocket. Deep cleanings (scaling & root planing) are usually covered as a periodontal benefit, often at 50–80%. We verify your specific coverage before your visit and tell you exactly what to expect.
How much does a cleaning cost without insurance?
A regular adult cleaning typically runs $150–$300, including the exam. Deep cleaning is more — usually $200–$400 per quadrant of the mouth. We offer a transparent in-house membership plan for uninsured patients that includes two cleanings, two exams, and discounts on all other treatment.
Will a cleaning hurt?
A regular cleaning shouldn’t hurt — at most you might feel some pressure or vibration from the ultrasonic scaler, and a little tenderness if your gums are inflamed. If you’re nervous or sensitive, tell your hygienist. We can use numbing gel on your gums and take it slower. For deep cleanings, local anesthesia is available and most patients are very comfortable.
I haven’t been to the dentist in years. Will you judge me?
Absolutely not. Many of our patients come back after long gaps. We have zero interest in lecturing — our goal is to get you back on track from wherever you are today. You’ll be treated with kindness, not shame.
Can I bring my kids in for cleanings too?
Yes. Smile Center is a family practice — we see patients from toddlers (around age 1) through grandparents. Many families book back-to-back appointments to handle everyone in one visit. Just call ahead and we’ll do our best to schedule together.
